Ruben graduated with a pre-med degree in Spring 2023.

My name is Ruben; I am a second-generation Mexican American. My family is from Michoacán, Mexico. They are my motivation for committing myself to causes like that of the ACCESS Lab, which aims to increase equity and opportunity for underrepresented students in STEM education.

I am the vice president of the student-led organization Minority Student Science Association (MSSA). Our efforts prioritize fostering equitable access to information and opportunities for minority UGA students as they pursue professional careers in the scientific and healthcare fields. I volunteer at a local community clinic that provides healthcare for low-income persons without health insurance in the Athens and Clarke County areas.

In my free time, I enjoy playing soccer, going to the gym, traveling with my family, and spending time with my girlfriend. Upon graduation, I plan to continue my work as a Medical Assistant at a local outpatient clinic before applying to professional school to become a Physician's Assistant. I plan to commit myself to a career of providing healthcare to uninsured, underrepresented, and low-income Hispanic populations.
